Woody: Though the distinction seems subtle, wood and oud are not interchangeable: “Woody is a description; oud is a note,” says Krigler. “Wood can be cedar, amber, anything from trees and while oud can be considered woody, it can also be a floral, like when you combine oud and rose, for example.”
Musky: Musk, Krigler explains, used to come from animal content, but synthetic musk is used today and the scent “is a very light tone that falls between a light floral and a bit of sugar.” It’s used to add warmth to fragrance and is considered to work like pheromones to spark attraction and desire.
